Commissioner Richard Troy Harris

Commissioner Richard Troy Harris has been a dedicated and influential figure in the Uniondale community for over four decades. A proud alumnus of Uniondale High School, he furthered his education at Nassau Community College. Commissioner Harris is married to Monique V. Harris, and together they have three children and three grandchildren.

With a commendable 21-year tenure at the Uniondale Fire Department, Commissioner Harris has exemplified leadership and commitment. His proactive approach to community safety is evident through initiatives such as distributing facemasks to

 

Uniondale schools during the COVID-19 pandemic, aligning with health guidelines to ensure the well-being of students and staff.

Beyond his fire department duties, Commissioner Harris has been actively involved in youth development, notably coaching Uniondale PAL Football in 2003. His dedication to emergency response is highlighted by his certifications as a New York State Emergency Medical Technician and Certified First Responder, both achieved in 2006.

Elected as Fire Commissioner in 2007, Harris has been instrumental in fostering community relations, holding memberships with organizations like the Nostrand Gardens Civic Association. His faith and community involvement extend to Grace Cathedral International Church in Uniondale, under the leadership of Bishop R.W. Harris.

In recognition of his unwavering service, Commissioner Harris was honored in 2014 by Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray and Councilwoman Dorothy Goosby for 25 years of dedicated service. Further accolades include recognition by the Uniondale Community Council, Inc. in 2016 as part of the Board of Fire Commissioners.

Professionally, Commissioner Harris serves as the head of security at ShopRite and contributes to the Town of Hempstead's Department of Highways. His multifaceted roles underscore a profound commitment to community enhancement and public safety.
