David A. Paterson made history in 2008 as New York's 55th governor, becoming the state's first African American and legally blind individual to hold the office. 

 

His leadership during the Great Recession was marked by decisive action, including reducing the state's fiscal deficit by $40 billion and implementing reforms that led to on-time budgets.

Beyond his gubernatorial tenure, Governor Paterson has remained an influential figure in public affairs. He serves as Senior Vice President and Senior Advisor to Las Vegas Sands Corp., contributing to economic development initiatives in New York. Additionally, he holds the position of Vice President for Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging & Distinguished Professor at Touro University, reflecting his commitment to education and social equity.

Governor Paterson is also a prominent voice in media, hosting a popular drive-time talk radio show on WABC-AM, where he discusses pressing political and social issues. His memoir, Black, Blind, & in Charge, offers an inspiring account of his journey and leadership philosophy. 

In recognition of his enduring impact, a building in Albany was named in his honor in 2023, commemorating the 15th anniversary of his governorship. Governor Paterson's unwavering dedication to public service and advocacy continues to inspire communities across New York and beyond.
